The Department for Registration of Persons is to introduce a new mechanism to take photographs for the National Identity Card according to the standard of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The first phase of this program is scheduled to begin from the 17th of December in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Under the new method, an application will not be issued with a hard-copy of the photograph. Instead, a receipt with the applicants’ photograph printed and a QR code will be issued to the applicant from the respective photo studio. Thereafter, the applicant must produce the receipt to the Grama Niladhari Officer.

The Department has stressed that photographs should only be obtained from studios registered with the Department of Registration of Persons.
