Over 200 students from the University of Jaffna launched a hunger strike today (17), in protest of the detention of several Tamils as political prisoners at the Anuradhapura prison.  

The students launched the hunger strike in support of the prisoners who are fasting in protest of their imprisonment in Anuradhapura.
Speaking to an Ada Derana correspondent, Students from the University stated that the government had given several false promises when Tamils were taken captive as political prisoners on numerous occasions. 

It was reported that students from the university held talks with the Governor of the Northern Province yesterday (16), where he stated that talks will be held with the President to arrive at a resolution.
